A Wolf at the Door and Other Retold Fairy Tales was a bottom of a box discovery for me. It’s a book that came into my possession when I was just entering my teen years, but for some reason it languished on my shelf unread until it made its way to a box where it was forgotten until I recently found it again. My first instinct was to pass it along to one of my nieces because it is technically a children’s book, but then I checked out the list of contributing authors and changed my mind. For the past twelve years, I’ve had a collection of stories written by the likes of Neil Gaiman, Jane Yolen, Tanith Lee and Gregory Maguire, and I had failed to read a single one. Kid book or not, that was a mistake that demanded to be rectified.
