Season 1, Episode 8: Weirdos Need Girlfriends Too Last week I complained that the characters on Girls never seem to spend any significant amount of time with each other and that when they did, the conversation was dominated by talk about men. There was a bit of improvement on that front this week as Marnie and Jessa spent a strange evening together bonding, making out and frustrating Chris O’Dowd. It was a relief to see the girls on this show interacting in a meaningful way again. Small friendship moments like Marnie and Hannah’s impromptu dance session and the abortion get-together have been sprinkled throughout the season, but they’ve been sporadic at best. As much as I’m enjoying the individual stories, Marnie and Jessa’s night out only reinforced my belief that Girls is at its best when the characters aren’t locked away from each other in their own isolated worlds.
